Every Kind of House in One Valley

Salt Lake County is not one housing stock, it is four or five stacked on top of each other. There are 1940s bungalows in the Avenues with original wood under two layers of carpet, mid-century ramblers in Murray and Millcreek, sprawling two-story builds in Draper and South Jordan, and brand new construction filling in Herriman and the west side.

Each of those asks something different from a floor. An older home near downtown often has a plank subfloor that needs attention before anything goes over it. A newer build in Daybreak usually has a flat slab or clean sheathing, but builder-grade carpet that homeowners want gone within a few years of moving in.

We measure and check the subfloor on every job rather than assuming, because the same product installed over two different subfloors gives you two very different floors.

Basements, Winters, and What Actually Holds Up

Finished basements are a huge part of the work here. Most sit on a concrete slab, and slabs carry moisture. That pushes most basement projects toward LVP or glue-down LVT rather than solid wood, and it means a moisture check before we quote the job.

Then there are the winters. Snow, slush, and road salt come in the front door from November through March. Entryways and mudrooms take the beating, which is why water-resistant plank near the door is one of the most practical upgrades a valley home can make.

On the main floor, where the weather does not reach, hardwood still makes plenty of sense. It just needs to be acclimated for the dry air rather than rushed in the week it was delivered.

Commercial Work Across the Valley

Salt Lake County also keeps us busy with commercial work: offices downtown and in the south valley business parks, retail spaces, clinics, and rental properties that need floors that turn over fast between tenants.

For those spaces we usually specify glue-down LVT or carpet tile, both for traffic tolerance and because a damaged section can be swapped without redoing the entire floor.
